Every day, across Australia, good food is thrown away. Not because it’s spoiled — but because it’s slightly imperfect, overstocked, or simply didn’t sell in time.
As locals in Brisbane, we saw this happening in our own neighbourhood:
Bakeries tossing fresh pastries at closing time. Sushi shops wrapping up unsold rolls. Supermarkets clearing shelves of “best before” stock that still had plenty of life left. At the same time, we saw families struggling with rising grocery costs, students skipping meals, and food insecurity becoming a growing issue.
We couldn’t help but ask — what if we could connect the dots?
That’s how Best Before was born.
A local-first platform to rescue surplus food and short-dated goods — and make them accessible to people nearby, at prices they can truly afford.
